First Strings

First Strings: pre-Grade 1

WE ARE UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO RUN FIRST STRINGS AT THE MOMENT.

However, if you have passed your Grade 1, why not take a look at Camerata!

Our entry level orchestra welcomes students at pre-Grade 1 level. Once there is confidence in holding the instrument and recognising the 4 open strings as musical notation, First Strings is the place to be! Every student is given the option to play open string music or music which uses fingers, offering flexibility to suit their stage of learning. Musical games and singing are integral to First Strings, designed to equip students from the outset with core musicianship skills to support their playing. No audition is required.

The First Strings programme has been skilfully designed by the conductor, Tim Wells, using his unique arrangements and practice resources. Tim is a leading expert in string teaching and passionate about quality of music and education at all levels.

Strings for Youth orchestras rehearse weekly during term time, working towards a concert at the end of each term.

I love playing with others in orchestra and all the pieces are really fun to play. I especially like the ones where we sing, like Breakfast Calypso. We play lots of games with our instruments and also bingo which helps me to read my notes. Tim is a fun teacher but also helps us to play our best, which makes me feel very proud when we play to everyone in our concert.
